Research interests

Keywords:

Computational mathematics, Parallel computing, Linear algebra, exact computations, computer algebra, complexity, mathematic software development, coding and fault tolerance

My research involves three complementary areas:

Algorithms and complexity in exact linear algebra, and its applications.

My work concerns the computational aspects of linear algebra problems in general, and more particularly problems related to the characteristic polynomial and matrix normal forms. My most significant result, with A. Storjohann, is the reduction of the algebraic time complexity of computation of the characteristic polynomial to the one of matrix multiplication.

Mathematic software development.

I am mainly working on 3 open-source software projects: FFLAS-FFPACK, a package of routines for dense linear algebra over a word-size finite field; LinBox, a library for exact linear algebra over a finite field or integers; Sage, a general purpose mathematic software.

Security and fault tolerance in distributed environment

In the context of distributed or peer to peer architectures, we develop strategies to tolerate faulty computations of certain nodes and certify the correctness of the result.
